Cleaner member imports and more accurate membership records

Military OS now moves people and membership terms together, keeps membership status tied to real dates, and removes chapter access that no longer applies.

Membership onboarding and the administrative record now follow the same rules.

Association records usually arrive with history: people, membership terms, chapter assignments, and status information maintained in several spreadsheets or older systems. Moving those records safely requires more than accepting a file and reporting that the import finished.

The latest Military OS work checks a person and their membership term together, saves them together, and keeps a record of what the import added.

Move people and membership terms together

Military OS checks imported people and membership terms before adding them. The records and the import history are then saved as one operation, so a failed import does not leave a success message beside incomplete member information.

The import also handles repeated records consistently and translates outside column names into the Military OS record. This keeps the association's future work from being tied to the layout of an old spreadsheet.

Membership status follows the actual dates

Military OS now checks the current date when deciding whether a membership is active. The status therefore follows the start and end dates on the membership term instead of a fixed date used during development.

Chapter access follows current assignments

When a person's chapter relationship changes, Military OS now removes or blocks responsibilities that no longer match. This prevents someone from keeping chapter access after the assignment that justified it has ended.

Publishing approval stays with the approver

Editors can update their News content without accidentally changing whether it is approved for the main feed. The decision to publish there remains with staff who have that responsibility.

Why it matters

The first transfer of association records sets the foundation for everything that follows. Saving related information together reduces cleanup during the move, while accurate membership dates and chapter assignments help staff trust the record after daily work begins.
